The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) Board of Directors has elected Professor Low Teck Seng, of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, as an IEEE Fellow, effective 1 January 2001.
Recognising the achievements of its members is an important part of the mission of the Institute and the IEEE Fellowship is one of the most prestigious honours in Electrical Engineering. Each year, following a rigorous evaluation procedure, the IEEE Fellows Committee recommends a selected group of recipients for the Fellowship. This year, less than one in one thousand members of the IEEE, from all over the world, will receive this honour.
Professor Low, was the Director of the Data Storage Institute from its founding in 1992 until 1998, and Dean of Engineering from 1998 to 2000.
According to his citation, he is elected "for leadership in the development of technology for magnetic data storage".
Professor Low is the third person in the department to be elected IEEE Fellow. The previous receipients, Professor Hang Chang Chieh (in 1998) and Professor Lim Yong Ching (2000), were honoured for their work in control engineering and in FIR digital filter design respectively.
We congratulate Professor Low for this prestigious honour.
